The Tower of Hercules is a Roman lighthouse, and is the oldest known Roman lighthouse still in operation. It was built in the first century, possibly by the Emperor Trajan, and it's plan was based on that of the lighthouse at Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The huge statue in the foreground is the Celtic mythological hero Breogán, an ancestor of the Gaels. Descended from Adam through the sons of Noah, he is supposed to have founded the city of Brigantia, which is generally agreed to be the city of A Coruña.

Incidentally, if you're wondering why it's A Coruña rather than La Coruña, the latter is the Spanish name, while the former is the Galician name, and is now the name formally used and recognised in Spain.
