La Caravane Publicitaire has been a fixture of the Tour de France since 1930. Preceding the race on the road by about 60-90 minutes, it is a bizarre convoy of sometimes extraordinary vehicles, decked out in the colours of the race's sponsors and staffed by a legion of young men and women employed to dispense shedloads of cheap plastic tat to the waiting fans, by the simple expedient of chucking it at them.
